Lama Tsultrim Allione

She is the founder of the Tara Mandala Center in southwestern Colorado with a three-story temple and library dedicated to the divine women of the Buddhist tradition. She leads an international community with over forty groups worldwide.

Born in New England, she later traveled to Asia and in 1970, at the age of 22 in Bodhgaya, India, became the first American woman to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk. Later in life she made the difficult decision to return her monastic vows. She got married three times. She is the mother of three children and grandmother of six grandchildren. In 2007, she was recognized in Tibet and Nepal as the reincarnation of the famous 11th century Tibetan yogini Machig Labdrön and is one of the few female lamas in the world.

In both the morning and afternoon sessions, Tsultrim Allione's teaching will be combined with practice with her assigned teacher.

Drawing from over fifty years of training and practice in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition Lama Tsultrim will guide us in the awakening and identification of this natural state of self-cognizing awareness through stories, dialogue,and experiential exercises.

What should I take with me?

We recommend that you take a bottle of water that can be closed, a notebook and a pen. You can also bring coloured pencils if you want. Please bring your own meditation cushion and feel free to bring a comfortable blanket or scarf. 

What type of cloth should I wear?

It is convenient to wear a comfortable clothing in which you feel good. 

Is there any refreshments available?

Participants are responsible for their own meals during the workshop. There are multiuple restaurants and open shops in the area.
